Tom Took me to this Memorial Monument erected in 2003 at the Britz district canal in Berlin Treptow-Köpenick borough. Not extravagant Monumet for Chris Gueffroy who was named as a last person tried to escape from east berlin to west berlin in 1989. we took the bus 246 at Hermanssstr station towards Britzer allee on the corner of hermannstr and silbersteinstr until the very last stop.then we walked into Britzer allee and crossed the bridge, right at the end of the bridge we walked down onto that pedestrian road.

Patrick took me to Marzhan-very east Berlin. walked on the street called Cosmos in English. there are two building compeletely empty. apparently you can rent for about 1.5 Euro per square meter. walked on the street called Cosmos in English. and the Kino-Sojus which used be Patrick's favorite cheapest cinema in Berlin but now it is closed.

and met a man with the hobby inside the store. his hobby seemed too Professional. his aquariums are full of all types of tropical fishes. actually they are travelled from Thailand according to his introduction.

and Patrick took me a secondhandshop in Marzhan known for selling lots of goods from GDR era. and we walked to "Global Garden" where Seoul garden is built as a gift from the city of Seoul.

where she visited once when she was in Berlin last time.

after a good walking along the river Spree we managed to get in through a hole in the fence.

no need to climb over the fence.

what we did was very illegal and took the risk of being caught.

unfortunately we were thrown out after a good 20min or even less.

cant remember.

Rotten mouse was still alive not dead yet.

It is located in the middle of Treptow Park in the suburban district in Berlin.

This one's not open anymore.

It is the only former GDR" the amusement center until 1989.

A sudden encounter: Part 2

I went back to Mohren Street to find that man with whom I’d had a sudden encounter at the North Korean embassy. This time I was not as drawn in by the energy of the place, which had seemed as expansive as Jupiter the first time. The pink colored pipe was still there, delivering water during construction.

After a short walk around area I went back to the spot at the North Korean embassy where I’d seen the man before, but he wasn’t there this time. And the door next to City Hostel was completely closed like last time. No security guard! I didn’t dare to press the buzzer either to get in. Also the rose bush which had been the the object of the man's attention that first day turned out to be just an ordinary shrub.

I then walked around the other side of building and realized that I was in exactly the same area where I had had a quick break on the way to find The North Korean embassy the first time. I remembered noting at that time how unimpressive the North Korean embassy was in comparison to other buildings I saw around Brandenburg gate such as the British embassy or the American embassy.

I walked around another corner of the building site and found another gate, where I stood around for a while hoping to see someone or something. Through the fence I saw a bike lying around next to basketball hoop. And then I noticed a man coming out of the embassy building and a little boy playing with a ball inside the building. When I saw the man walking out I hesitantly said “hello.” Then I said a bit loudly, " Do you speak Korean?" in Korean. No answer. I tried "Do you speak English?” No answer either. He walked past right next me and completely ignored me as if I was invisible person.

Part of the North Korean embassy building has been turned into City Hostel for backpackers near Brandenburg Gate. On my way to find the North Korean embassy, I came across this in the street - it reminded me of the expansiveness of Jupiter's energy, whether you believe it or not! After checking out City Hotel, right next to the North Korean embassy, I had a sudden encounter with a man from Pyongyang through the fence of the North Korean embassy. He was watering the Rose bush. I introduced myself as a person from Seoul and an artist, but he didn't understand the word "artist". We carried on talking; just saying hello, discussing what we were both doing here and so on. I was really suprised with myself at the time; the fact is I wouldn't talk to anyone like that in Korea. I asked him if I could get into the building, but his answer was "huh huh". Then I mentioned about the institution in Dahlem, where people are working on the unification of Korea, but he didn't say a word, only "huh huh" again. The interesting thing was, at first sight of the man, there was a women next him, but I didn't see her while I was talking to him. However, when I was saying goodbye to him, I realised that she was still there. I wonder, was it just that she was shy, or was she watching us?

What's North Korean food look like these days? how do they serve in a restaurant? i have no idea but somehow this place allowed me to imagine North Korean version of eatery with very energetic (dont want to say it is aggressive red) table cover with pretty minimal atmosphere except for the Christian bible chapters on the wall. just remembered reading an article about Gentrification of Korean food habit in South Korea in relation to Choseon dynasty...

Drawing the walking route at a Chinese restaurant near Baedari. This restaurant is famous for its seafood noodle soup with mixed seafood and vegetables called Jjambbong. It is very nice reatsaurant serving best seafood noodle soup in town...The walking lasted for about two hours and a half cos the weater was freezing-almost Minus 5 Celsius.

Walkday One: Walked from Dongincheon to Baedari and all the way to Chinatown

First walking in Incheon was with a group of artists/curators from all over the world, mostly residents of Seoul via Spain and England, along with a student who lives in Incheon but has never been to either Baedari or Chinatown - the old part of Incheon. Gathered at Dongincheon Station - looked like any other station in Seoul.

Walked to Baedari - literally means Boat Bridge, named after the Chosun Dynasty.

No bridge or ocean water, only a bunch of second-hand bookshops, as well as school kids’ stationery stores.

Turned right, stopped at the old Brewery - built in the colonial era, turned into a community art space called Space Beam ['beam' meaning 'emptying' in Korean; not, as you might imagine, 'light']. Guided by the director of the Space to Eco Park, across from the Space. On the way, in the small alley, saw eclectic-looking attached houses - each seemed to change in many ways from one house to the next. Apparently five families live in each house.

Walked to Eco Park, run by the Space Beam community and local artists.

May have been abandoned ‘for now’ but being used beautifully by them.

Local community obviously doesn’t want to have a fancy-looking designed park.

Under the process of making a new road to connect the new part of the city, for the benefit of new city commuters. Temporary and very precarious part of the city. Old city may be wiped out soon.

Park surrounded by a big construction fence. Would never know what’s inside the construction site if not guided. Walked through a small part of the fence. Touched soil, grass and bushes. Cabbage growing. Walked back into Space Beam and shared lovely homemade cookies contributed by one of the walkers. Cookies traveled all the way from Seoul out to Incheon along with her.

Started to walk again and saw local vegetables and fruits shops on the sidewalk. On the way to Hongyemun or Hongye gate (the Rainbow Gate), saw the tunnel under the mountain - the Japanese paved the road and gate back in the old days. Loads of cheap Chinese labor involved. Many died.

Walked up the hill on the way to Jayu Park. Saw abandoned-looking Japanese houses to the left side of the hill. Talked about materials and structures of the houses’ roofs, and the wall. Was this built by Japanese during the Colonial Era? Or is this going to be demolished? If not, is this going to be registered as a 'cultural property'? (UPDATE: Found out this story from a book written in 2006 by a local historian Jongbok Lee: Apparently, a Japanese family, whose father worked in the city’s hospital back in the colonial era, owned this house in Songhak-dong. One of the family members (unknown whether he is still alive or not) visited Incheon not long ago. When he visited Incheon to see his childhood home, he was around eighty years old , living in Fukuoka.)

Walked up the hill along the left side of the Jayu Park. Found the Jemulpo Club - a foreigner’s social club during the Colonial Era until just after the Korean War. Closed upon our arrival. Didn't feel connected to those days. Wonder what sort of vibe all the foreign diplomats had back in the day? Didn't feel club vibes at all, where the foreign settlement socialized back then, at this clubhouse.

Walked up to the Steps of Each Nation’s Settlement where we walked like the ‘Rocky run’ in the movies. Met General MacArthur’s memorial statue from the Korean War.

Talked about the role of the statue for people who have a memory of that war.

Walked down to the spot where the Qing Chinese and Japanese boundary steps are.

Offered a great view over the city. Reminded us Incheon is a big harbor city, and is changing madly from old to new. Stopped at a small artist-run space on the street where the Samgukji (Romance of the Three Kingdoms - Chinese Novel) Mural is. A local knows that some Korean houses around this street don’t have a registration number as property. This means these spaces are illegal. Some residents have lived there for more than thirty years, so the city cannot push them away for now, unless a rich property speculator buys the whole bunch of houses along the Samgukji.

Got introduced the Daechang Chinese restaurant where locals go to eat Jajangmyun. Walked down the boundary steps and turned right to the end of the street at the corner of the Bucksung Street. Found a restaurant. Ordered Jajangmyun, shared stories and books about Chinatown and Jayu Park.

Very Short Night walk between Artplatform to Baedari area after Affordable internet Housing Workshop on 19th Dec.

Walked into a Chinese restaurant called Jinheongak away from Chinatown to have Jajangmyun-Korean Black bean Paste Noodle. Three of us all had Samsun Jajangmyun-seafood based black been noodle without any hesitation. This time I had fried rice with Jajangmyun Sauce on it. As i might have explained below- it is derived from Chinese food in Shandong region in China. Jangmyeon was first created in Incheon where early Chinese migrants to Korea started to settle in the late 19th Century.

Dense of crowd in this old part of Incheon is almost Nothing compare to Seoul. Look just us walking in the street!! its not that late eve though-was about around 7-8pm.

Walked up to the hill shortly to the other side of Jayu Park. Saw abandoned-looking Japanese houses again to the left side of the hill. Talked about the story from a book written in 2006 by a local historian a Japanese family, whose father worked in the city’s hospital back in the colonial era...This time we had to miss all the Jayu Park sessions include MacArthurs' statue, 'Rocky run" at the steps of Each Nation's Settlement..

And walked down to Hongyemun to Dong-Incheon Station.

Walked into traditional craft gift's underground mall almost empty Now;)) look at the dispayed items-Old fashion looking clocks. Not even need to worry about to be stolen? Each clock approximately showed local time though.

While we Started walking back to Dong-Incheon sation. Walked into Joongang Sijang(literally means market in Korean)-A.k.a Yankee Sijang according to locals where lots of stores are moved out cos of the city's regeneration plan.

나는 인천에서 태어나 자랐지만 사실 대학을 인천 아닌 곳에서 다니기까지 내 고향이 어떤 곳인지에 대해 생각해 본 적이 거의 없었다. 그냥 서울과 가까이 있는 항구도시 정도로만 생각해봤을까... . 그러다가 전국 각지에서 모여온 친구들 속에서 인천 출신 친구들의 특성이 조금씩 보이기 시작했다. 유난히 털털하고 솔직 담백한 모습들을 보이는 우리 반 인천 친구들. 인천은 어떤 곳일까 하는 생각 속에 이주영 선생님을 따라 인천 워킹을 하게 되었다.

동인천역 2시. 한국인은 선생님과 나까지 넷, 외국인은 두 분 오셨다. 다양한 문화와 환경에서 자란 분들이 오늘 여기 인천에서 함께 모였구나 라는 생각이 들었다. 처음 이동한 곳은 배다리에 위치한 스페이스 빔이었다. 어렸을 때부터 배다리를 자주 드나들며 헌책도 사고 일반 고등학교를 다닐 때 스페이스 빔에서 열렸던 한 전시를 구경하며 예대에 대한 막연한 동경을 품었던 곳이었는데 대학졸업을 앞두고 이렇게 다시 와 보니 감회가 새로웠다. 사무실이 있는 2층에 올라가서 현재 진행되고 있는 여러 프로젝트라든지, 국가의 개발 사업을 반대하며 함께 펼치고 있는 활동과 에코파크라는 식물 생태계 보존 구역을 둘러보며 낮은 지붕이 많은 이곳을 끝까지 지키느냐 못 지키느냐의 여부는 우리 인천지역 사람들의 손에 달렸다라는 생각이 들었다.

다음 이동한 곳은 자유공원으로 올라가는 길이었다. 인천 학생교육문화회관을 지날 때는 고등학교 때 연극부 친구들과 공연을 보러왔던 기억이 났다. 어쨌든 그 오르막길을 오르며 인천 아트 플랫폼의 두 작가분과 이야기를 나누었다. 건축에 관심이 많으신 한 분은 올라가는 내내 건물의 형태며 양식을 보며 사진도 찍으시고 생각을 말씀하시기도 했다. 이 오르막길의 집들은 대개 주변부에 비해 낮기도 했지만 색감과 양식이 오히려 빛이 바래서 더욱 아름답게 느껴지는 곳이었다. 그 지역 사람들 또한 그것을 자신만의 아이덴티티라고 생각하여 더욱 소중히 안고 가는 듯이 보였다. 이후에 이주영 선생님, 다른 작가 한 분과 다시 이 길을 오를 기회가 있었는데 그 때에는 에코파크 앞에 있는 다세대 주택에서 가져온 한국인의 정서가 공간에 미치는 영향이라는 화제를 가져와 이 오르막길에서도 건물 앞에 놓인 화분을 통해 화분은 굉장히 유동적인 소재이기 때문에 이것 또한 자신의 영역을 표현할 때 중요하다 라는 이야기를 나눌 수 있었다. 한국인이기에 가질 수 있는 정서가 있고 그들의 정서가 자신들만의 공간을 만들어나가고 있다는 것. 크게 보면 인천이라는 공간을 만들어 온 것도 어떠한 정서가 중심이 되지 않았나 싶기도 했다. 어쨌든 오르막길은 거리가 긴만큼 옆의 사람과 대화를 나누기에 최적이었나 보다. 길을 다 오르고 커다란 돌로 쌓아올린 문이 나왔다. 홍예문이었다. 당시 많은 노동자들이 이 문을 쌓아올리다가 노역에 지쳐 죽기도 했다고 한다. 그들이 목숨을 바쳐 세운 문을 내가 이렇게 금방 지나치는 것에 미안한 마음이 들기도 했다. 그리고 자유공원으로 조금 더 가는 길에 연안부두이며 인천 아트 플랫폼의 전경, 그러니까 중구의 모습을 한 눈에 볼 수가 있었다. (사실 그 곳이 중구인 것도 이번에 워킹을 하며 알게 된 사실이다. 이렇듯 관심을 가지지 않으면 제 고향에 대해서도 잘 모르나 보다.) 지금도 기억에 남는 건 이 때 함께 워킹을 했던 분들이 인천은 어떻다 라는 자신의 생각을 말할 때 ‘색’이라는 단어를 많이 쓰셨다는 것이다. ‘인천의 색은 회색 하늘같다’라는 식. 인천의 색이 있다 라는 뜻이기도 하겠지만 다양한 색이 있기에 각각의 장소에 색을 부여하는 것일 수도 있는 것 같다. 사실 그렇다. 차이나타운에 갔을 때에는 (나는 난생처음 가본 곳이었다.) 중앙의 돌계단에서 봤을 때 왼쪽에는 일본식의 건물들, 오른쪽에는 중국식의 건물들이 있었다. 인천은 개발이 진행되는 곳과 보존이 진행되는 곳, 한국양식, 일본양식, 중국양식 등 다양한 정체성들이 존재하고 있는 듯 보였다. 이러한 곳에서 자란 영향을 받은 탓에 내 성격이 애매모호하고 우유부단한가라는 어이없는 생각도 잠깐 했다. 어쨌든 바다와 접해 있고 중국과 일본이 가까이 있기 때문에 가장 먼저 유입될 수 있는 환경이었다는 당연한 사실이 있었음에도 이 상황을 지금에서야 직접 보게 된 나로선 새삼 신기하고 인천이란 이렇게 포용성이 좋은 곳인가라는 생각마저 들었다.

그렇게 함께 워킹을 했던 우리 모두는 마지막 종착지가 되었던 차이나타운에서 짜장면과 짬뽕 등을 먹고 헤어졌다. 집으로 오는 길에 많은 생각을 했다. 지금 내가 2009년에 인천을 보고 있다 라고 해서 보여지는 인천까지 마냥 2009년인 것은 아닌 것 같았다. 왜냐하면 1900년대에 지어진 건물이 자취를 남긴 곳에 또 다른 이방인의 건물이 들어서고 그것이 없어지면 그 위에 국가가 세운 건물이 들어서고... 같은 공간에 다양한 건물과 쓰임들이 누적되고 있는 듯 보였다. 그래서 인천의 색이 더욱 다양해지고 있는 것일 수도 있겠다.

앞으로 인천은 어떠한 방향성을 가지고 나아가게 될 것인가... 무척 궁금하기도 하고 그것이 인천에 사는 우리 젊은 세대의 몫이 아닌가 싶기도 했다.

어쨌든 다양한 색이 존재하는 공간에서 다양한 색의 사람들이 함께 워킹을 했다. 정말 멋진 하루였다.

I met Som and Fredo on top of Jayu Park by the MacArthur statue(instead of Dongincheon Station).
we walked all the way down to Chinatown and through Japanese street, stopped at the former Japanse Bank now turned into Modern Architecture Museum. We discussed about history of Chinese and Japanese influence as well as local property in the area. As I'm trying to look into how the trace of occupation History and its architecture has changed since regeneration and the alterations in its appearance effected by the Incheon local government in view of globalization. For example, Jemulpo club used to a place where western settlers socialized. What does it offer or how does it fit into the activities of its local community? What does its architecture reflect, how does it interact with the architecture of the surrounding Chinatown, how do these three histories – local, foreign, Chinese – intertwine and diverge? And we stopped at the Art Platform to draw our walking route and share more stories!

My first walk with Jooyoung was early and very unofficial. It was dark out and I had been working on the Cadavre Exquis show at Space Beam with Lenny.   Jooyoung came to visit there and we started talking about Incheon, Korea's trade history, and the once very fancy Jemulpo club. Lenny and I were about to leave so we decided to walk with Jooyoung back to the Chinatown port area to visit her friends gallery and to check out a love motel for future stays in Incheon. We walked from Baedari, an older area where Space Beam is located towards the entrance to the underground markets located at Dongincheon station. After walking past the many shops we leisurely found our way though Chinatown. On our way we discussed the architecture and history of the area and its Chinese and Japanese influences.
We explored stairways and climbed a rooftop for a good view of the port. It was quite spontaneous.
At one point we found ourselves lost in plumbs of disinfecting smoke from a machine at the back of a truck.   It was great to be with Jooyoung during this developing stage of her project, watching and walking through the process with her. Knowing Jooyoung this project likely continues to evolve with every new walk and new participant! Each walk I've joined in has been a great experience and each one is different. As a result I feel much closer to the city and landscape itself.

주영과 함께 한 나의 첫번째 걷기는 아주 비공식적이고 일찍 시작되었다. 레니와 나는 함께 스페이스빔에서 Cadavre Exquis 전시를 준비하고 있었던 밤이었다. 주영은 스페이스빔을 방문했고, 우리는 한국 무역의 역사와 한때 멋졌던 제물포클럽과 인천에 대해서 이야기하기 시작했다. 마침 레니와 나는 떠날 준비를 하고 있었고, 그녀의 친구가 운영한다는 갤러리도 방문하고, 우리가 앞으로 머무를 미래의 인천의 러브모텔도 보기 위해 주영과 함께 차이나타운과 항구지역을 걷기로 결정했다. 우리는 구도심, 스페이스빔이 위치한 배다리에서부터 동인천역 지하쇼핑몰까지 걷기 시작했다. 많은 가게들들 지나고, 편하게 우리의 목적지인 차이나타운을 찾았다. 가는길에 우리는 건축과 역사, 일본과 중국의 영향에 대해서도 토론했다. 우리는 몇몇 계단을 탐험하고, 항구의 경치를 잘 보기위해 한 옥상까지 올라갔다. 그것은 아주 충동적인 행동이었다. 한시점에서 우리는 어떤 트럭뒤에 장치된 기계에서 나오는 소독연기의 바로 정면에 서서 잃어버린 우리는 발견했다. 주영의 프로젝트를 발전시키는 과정에서 함께 한것은 휼륭한 일이었다. 주영을 아는한 이프로젝트는 새로운 걷기와 새로운 참여자와 함께 점차적으로 발전하면서 지속될 것 같았다. 내가 참여한 걷기는 매번 서로 달랐다. 결과적으로 나의 느낌은 도시와 풍경자체와 아주 친해졌다는 것이다.

A brief description by Blake E. Bolan (이글은 워킹 둘째날에 참여한 미국인 Blake E. Bolan 이 보내온 글입니다)

안개가 짙은 날, 서울에서 인천까지. 이런 일에 시간을 너무 지키려 한 건 아닌지, 벽에 기대어 누구를 기다리면서, 누군가를 기다리는 사람들을 조심스럽게 쳐다 보며 그들이 누구인지 궁금해하는데, 사실은 나를 찾고 있었다. 나무그늘 아래에서 할머니, 할아버지들과 함께 앉을 자리를 찾으며, 지나가는 사람들을 바라보지만 어쩌면 단지 나의 내부를 바라보고 있었을지도 모르겠다.

역 안을 자세히 들여다보는 한 여자를 본다. 그녀는 역 안을 뱅글뱅글 돌면서 돌아다닌다. 확실히 냉담하는 표정. 서두르지 않지만 누군가를 찾고 있다. 그녀가 자신의 전화기를 들여다본다. 나는 전화기를 꺼내면서 혹시 그녀가 나를 보는지 본다. 숨을 쉬면서, 멈추고, 혹시 그녀가 나와 관계 있는 사람인지, 그녀가 내가 그녀가 찾는 사람인지 볼려고 기다린다. 한번 숨을 내쉬고 나니, 필요한 질문이 시작되었고, 우리는 서로를 발견했다.

오직 둘 뿐이니 형식을 따지지 말고 여유있게 걷기로 했다. 긴장감을 덜기 위해 콜라와 담배를 사려 가게에서 들어간다. 음식, 건축, 역사, 대중문화, 책, 개인적인 고백, 예술, 정치에 관해서 오랜 시간 이야기하고 어떤 경우에는 길게 이야기도 하면서 진정한 대화를 나누기 시작한다. 여행 가이드도 아니고 그녀와 여행다니는 사람들과도 다르다. 두 사람이 나란히 함께 걷는다기 보다는 개인과 도시 사이의 격렬한 로맨스의 불꽃이 일어나는 블라인드 데이트 같다.

A hazy day, from Seoul to Incheon. A little bit too punctual for this sort of thing, leaning against the wall, looking carefully at each person who seems to be looking for someone, wondering if they are, in fact, looking for me. Waiting for a free seat with those elderly men and women wiling away their moments under a tree, watching the people pass, or perhaps just looking inward.

I see a woman looking, peering inside the station, turning in circles, doing a good job of looking nonchalant, unhurried, but still searching. She looks at her phone. I get out my phone and look to see if she sees me looking. One breath, held, waiting to see if I'm who she's searching for, if she is the relevant she. Once the breath is let out, the necessary questions begin, and we have found one another.

Since it is just the two of us, the walk is leisurely and informal. It takes about to the shop where we stop for cola and cigarettes for us to begin to feel easy, to begin to weave together food, architecture, history, popular culture, books, personal admissions, art, politics, many hours, and the occasional lengthy pause into a real conversation. Nothing resembling a tour guide and her tour group. Instead a blind date where the spark of romance erupts between each individual and the city, rather than between the two people walking side by side.

Walking from Chinatown all the way up to Seckjungru on top of Jayu Park. It offered great view over the city and yellow sea. And reminded us Incheon is a habor city and reclaimed lands where new city is called Songdo new city is built. wonder what would it happend to this mand made island if the sea water level goes really high 100 years after global warming.

We saw most happily singing and dancing group of adults at the Jayu Park during the walks.

동인천, 배다리, 자유공원, 차이나타운과 스페이스 빔:Space Beam Community

에코파크까지 걸어갔다- 현재 배다리에 위치한 스페이스빔 커뮤니티에 의해 운영되고 있다.

홍예문(Hongyemun)을 막 지나서

자유공원 가는길에 잠시 멈추었다. 일본식 건물, 겉모습만 봐서는 보기에는 사람이 살고 있지 않은 듯하다. 나중에 읽었던 인천 향토사학자 이종복씨가 쓴 책 '길따라 건물따라1'에서 이집을 반갑게 다시 보게 되었다. 실제로 이집은 몇년전 한국을 다시 보러온 한 일본인 할아버지가 일제 시대에 의사인 아버지를 따라와서 어린시절을 보낸 집이라고 한다. 당시 그가 인천을 방문했을때는 약 80세 가량있었고, 지금 후쿠오카에 살고 있다고 (책이 몇년전에 쓰여진걸로 봐서 지금 살아있는지는 모르지만) 한다.

(Updated)-16일 월요일 워킹에서 나는 이집 얘기를 좀더 제대로 할수 있었다. 우리는 이집에 실제로 누가 살고 있는지 확인하기 위해 문입구를 찾아가 보았다. 초인종도 눌러보았지만, 초인종 밧데리도 나간지 오래된거 같았고, 역시나 아무도 살고 있지 않았다. 감나무에 감도 그대로 달려 있었고, 한쪽에서 여전히 꽃이 피어 있었고, 한쪽에선 낙옆이 수북히 쌓여 있었다. 정현씨가 말했던 것처럼 이런집이말로 아티스트 레지던시가 된다면 작가든 글쓰는 사람이든 정말 많은 이야기를 할수 있을것이라고 언급했다.

(Updated 18일 수요일)어제 민주점에서 들은 얘기로는 그집은 현재 경매에 팔렸다고 한다. 누가 사서 무엇을 어떻게 할지 궁금하다. .

Background story

A few weeks ago a long walk along the Han River began at YangWhajin and lasted long into the night. YangWhajin is where the foreign missionary cemetery is located and one of the ports connected to Jemulpo Port in Incheon during the Joseon Dynasty. Possibly channeling its long history as a meeting point between people, this place became a departure point for a three person conversation that touched upon ideas of convenience, family, customs, and artistic practice. Another integral part was much goofiness, eating, walking and some drinking. This experience highlighted the multiple values of this type of exchange: devoid of intentionality Family Mart Social (0) was born.

Reflecting on Jooyoung Lee’s Family Mart Photo Series the idea of exploring the significance of walking together and socializing at a place like the Family Mart, always open because people’s schedules are all different and mean that they need something they can always rely on, by sharing the experience with others was imagined and is now proposed as Family Mart Social I.
